Central Axis
I noticed that Seagate finally released the Central Axis, which was the last product I worked on while I was there. It’s an update of various things in the Shared Storage II line, and adds some rather neat features, like the remote access and sharing capability, which is the part I worked on, primarily. The new software is even available as an update for existing Shared Storage II users.
I’m actually surprised to see only the one model (I also liked this comment about it’s monolithic appearance), since the design you see there was to be, ah, let’s say the “little boy” to a different and more complicated “fat man”. I’m guessing they had some serious problems with the release, which is especially understandable given how few good engineers they have.
I had a flash of a real hope that someone buying this would set up remote access, and one day suddenly find it live-savingly (metaphorically) useful, and that something I helped work on brought some sliver of happiness about. Grin.
