Forgive this, it’s stupid, but I’m in need of advice:
I’ve written about hair before, and how I seem to have a rapid shedding cycle, which has kept my hair only to about shoulder length, even though I haven’t been to the barber in more than five years. I lose lots of hair every day in the shower (which slowly but surely clogs the drain, every two weeks or so), but it seems to grow back, because I haven’t noticed any thinning. My maternal grandfather went bald at like 20, so cromedomehood may be in the cards for me, but right now it keeps coming back. This does have the negative that while a lot of my hair is rather long, the short stuff that’s growing in makes for this fuzz on the periphery, if I put it back in a ponytail or something. I usually part it in the middle, and have the sidebang thing happening.
Anyway, I’ve made an appointment for a haircut (on Friday, because apparently everyone needs their hair cut, but nobody wants to cut hair anymore), and I’m on the fence about how I should have it done. So here’s a silly poll for the Lazyweb:
- Get the back and sides cut down, so it won’t be as bushy as it is now, but nearly the same style. Of concern is the shedding issue, which will remain.
- Get it cut to medium length, and gel the shit out of it. Of concern is the general shittyness of my hair when cut medium, as it does its Cosmo Kramer impersonation.
- Get it cut really short. Of concern is that short hair would look really dumb on me.
- Other…

In my experience, the most you cut them, the longer they take to grew up again, obvious you say, but this happens not in linear way (First Law of Haircutting!).
And you also risk that they will never grow again at the same size if they are really long now, so my advice is to think twice about cutting them really short.
Said that, the Second Law of Haircutting states that the haircut you think looks good on you, does not look good on you for others. A consequence of this theorem is that you cut your hairs always too short or to long, you will not like the cut, but all the world around will say you look good

Get it cut really short. People with long hair always wuss out and have this semi-long weird cut which looks like when they had long hair but a bit shorter.
