Hey, lazyweb. What kind of pocket camera do you like?
I’ve sold my Canon, and since I have a digital SLR, I’d like to have a little point-and-shoot digital camera, something small so I can carry it with me most everywhere. As I understand it, there are quite a lot of different choices for portable cameras that take pretty good pictures, in this modern world of ours.
I’m thinking right now about either a Canon, Casio, or Pentax; what’s your opinion? Size is the big decider, here: I’d like to get something small, and thin (the, er, z-axis) is more attractive than the x/y size. I’d like something that takes good quality pictures, and which doesn’t have a long shutter delay. Mac OS X compatibility is needed (as is no dependency on some craptastic camera-maker’s software), GNU/Linux compatibility is a nice-to-have.
Update: Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Elph. Tiny!

I like the canon powershot range. They produce very good pictures compared to the competition, are sturdy (i drop mine a lot) and have good cross os compatibility. The S types are also thin unlike the bulkier A types.

My advice is to get a camera which takes normal AA batteries for times you won’t have access to a battery charger, such as when hiking, or when you don’t want to bring one and any requisite power adapters, like when backpacking in a foreign country.

Hi, I also have a dSLR and am considering to buy an additional point-and-shoot camera, and for me the Olympus Stylus 770 SW (http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1287) seems to be the right camera. It’s not too thick (20mm / 0.8″), water proof, shock proof, and has a pretty large LCD (2.5″). I didn’t try it out yet, but I think I soon will…
